Exploring Vienna

Rather than take our usual Hop On Hop Off bus tour we decided to get a one day transportation pass for U Bahn (subways), buses, and S Bahn (street level trams).  The old city is circled by the Ring Road.  There are numerous buses and trams that crisscross the old city and we decided to use them as our own verson of HOHO.  It was fun!

The German and Austrian Transportation systems amaze me as they are on the honor system.  You buy a ticket good for various lengths of time from a single ride to a month unlimited.  You insert it in the blue readers ONCE and from then on you ride and carry it with you.  No one knows if you have a valid ticket or not.  They do regular checks and if caught without  a valid ticket you are removed form the transportation you are on and fined 100 euros.  It seems to work.

Austria is the only country I can remember that has lots of pay phones and they are modern

 Religious statues are everywhere

These scooters are a popular form of transportation.  They can be taken on public transportation along with bikes and dogs on leashes.

The red chairs seemed to be free to use.  There was no concession around.
These bikes also seemed to be free as there was only a button to release them and the said Frei on them
